If you always want to walk shoulder to shoulder with latest technologies, then at a point of time you may experience the need to find out a better file system than FAT. In fact, converting FAT file system to the latest one may become necessary for you due to slow system performance. With launch of Windows XP, need of converting FAT file system to NTFS fortified, as Microsoft itself advice all users to upgrade their FAT file system to NTFS for better performance.

Let us have a look at advantages of NTFS over FAT file system:

NTFS file system reduces disk accesses that are required to find and use a file.

NTFS file system is faster than FAT.

Automatic handling of disk related errors.

Improved data security through features like permission assignment and encryption to restrict access to specific files.

Supportive to large hard disks.

However, converting FAT to NTFS is a beneficial process but sometimes while conversion you may face data loss situation. But do not worry, as Kernel for FAT and NTFS is there to recover data and make you feel relaxed. It helps you to recover data from FAT and NTFS partitions that are corrupt, damaged, formatted or missing.

After using Fdisk to delete a logical drive when you start Windows NT in a dual-boot environment with Windows 95, or Windows 98, you find that logical drives that use NTFS file system have disappeared.

This issue can occur due to deletion of NTFS logical drive. In an extended partition Fdisk fails to recognize NTFS logical drives and it deletes the NTFS logical drive. The main reason for NTFS logical drive deletion is occurrence of Fdisk while using FAT file system.

Solution

To resolve this issue you will need to use Disk Administrator, so that changes to logical drive can be made. You will make changes to have logical drive that uses both FAT and NTFS file systems. After making these changes when you will run Fdisk once again, the logical drive will be successfully removed using FAT file system.

In Windows 95 if NTFS is configured as primary partition, Fdisk considers the NTFS partition as a non-DOS partition and fails to recognize it. You can make Fdisk recognize NTFS partition that is set as primary partition. To do so, run Fdisk in Windows 95 OEM Service Release 2 (OSR2) and in Windows 98.

If in case, you face data loss situation, you can always rely on Kernel for Fat and NTFS to recover data. Kernel for Fat and NTFS recovery software will effortlessly recover data from lost, formatted, damaged, corrupt or deleted FAT and NTFS partitions.
